Success Story

Unlocking the Maths Potential of Aussie Kids

Mathnasium was built on a simple idea: there’s a better way to teach maths.

In the early 2000s, education pioneers Peter Markovitz, David Ullendorff, and Larry Martinek came together to close the gap between how students learn and how maths is taught in schools. Together, they developed the Mathnasium Method, a personalised, engaging approach that helps students build strong foundations and real confidence in maths.

In 2002, they opened the first Mathnasium Learning Centre in Los Angeles, and by 2003, the franchise model was launched. Since then, Mathnasium has grown into a global education brand with more than 1,100 centres across five continents, trusted by over a million parents worldwide.

As part of its international growth, Mathnasium partnered with DC Strategy to support its expansion into the Australian market. Together, we successfully localised the program to meet national education standards while preserving the high-quality instruction and student outcomes that define the Mathnasium Method.

Nationwide Growth Fuelled by Marvellous Maths

Bringing the Mathnasium Method to Australia

In 2018, Mathnasium launched in New South Wales, marking the start of its expansion into the Australian market. The brand’s proven approach to maths education, focused on individualised learning and aligned with the Australian Curriculum, quickly resonated with families.

With strong enrolments and a clear need for high-quality maths support, the first centre exceeded expectations and paved the way for further growth.

Challenges Faced

Mathnasium encountered several challenges on its growth journey in Australia, including:

  • Adapting its curriculum to align with Australian education standards and the national curriculum.

  • Recruiting and training franchisees who could deliver the Mathnasium Method™ with consistency and care.

  • Building brand awareness and trust in a new market through targeted marketing and local engagement.

  • Maintaining educational quality while expanding to new locations at scale.

Partnering for Local Success

To bring the Mathnasium brand to more Australian communities, the team partnered with DC Strategy. This partnership helped localise the franchise model, attract high-quality franchisees and lay the groundwork for a scalable network.

DC Strategy provided expert support through:

  • Franchise Strategy and Development: Designed to support national growth while maintaining Mathnasium’s high standard of educational delivery across all centres.

  • Navigating Legal Requirements: Provided guidance on the legal foundations of the franchise model in Australia, including franchise agreements and disclosure documentation, ensuring a compliant and secure framework for expansion.

  • Targeted Recruitment and Marketing: Executed strategic campaigns to attract purpose-driven franchisees aligned with Mathnasium’s mission and values.

  • Ongoing Operational Support: Delivered practical support and expert guidance to help the brand navigate challenges, strengthen operations and pursue new opportunities as the network expanded.

DC Strategy has been an incredible partner in bringing the Mathnasium Method to life here in Australia. Their deep understanding of the local market and hands-on support made a real difference as we adapted our model and started building meaningful connections with families and franchisees.
