Wash Drones Takes Flight with Liverpool City Council

One of our most innovative and exciting franchisor partners, Wash Drones is taking cleaning to new heights. Their drone-powered system replaces scaffolding, rope access and elevated platforms with a safer, faster and more cost-effective way to maintain assets at scale.

That vision just reached a milestone, with Liverpool City Council becoming the first in Australia to use drone cleaning on a public building.

The team was called in to restore the Liverpool City Library, a circular structure that would normally take weeks of traditional methods. Instead, their drones tracked the building’s curved design and completed the job quickly, safely and with minimal disruption.

This achievement represents more than a clean facade. It shows that local government is willing to back new technology, paving the way for other councils and asset owners to reduce risk and bring down costs. The story even caught the attention of national television, where it was featured as a sign of what building maintenance could look like in the years ahead. Watch the coverage here.

Innovation in Action

Wash Drones has already proven its impact on some of Australia’s most challenging sites.

The 15-metre, 97-tonne Big Merino is one of the country’s most recognisable landmarks. Wash Drones restored it without scaffolding or high-risk platforms. The eco-friendly system cleaned the structure quickly and safely, preserving its heritage while avoiding long closures.

The team also completed the 4-storey, 255-room Shangri-La Hotel in just one week. Traditional methods would have stretched well beyond a month. Guests were able to go about their stay without disruption, and the transformation was immediately visible. Shangri-La became the first international hotel chain in Australia to adopt drone cleaning, setting an example for the sector.

Looking ahead

With expansion underway in Australia, Wash Drones is now preparing to enter Asia as well as the UAE, UK and US. The aim is clear: scale a model that has already proven itself on iconic Australian sites and bring it to some of the world’s most complex assets.

The benefits are compelling! Drone cleaning is safer for workers, faster for clients, less disruptive for the public and more cost-effective for owners. From heritage landmarks to modern high-rise towers, Wash Drones is showing that the future of exterior cleaning is already unfolding above us.

It is not all serious business, though. The team clearly has fun with their work, and their YouTube videos are worth a look for a lighter take on drone cleaning. Check them out here.
